How long for hogs to come to trap? Paging BP

A buddy of mine has a pretty sizable hog problem and has asked me if I wanted to help eradicate them. We've shot a few here and there, but never a large scale removal. He has some plans and material for a one way trap door, trap. My question is: if we build it in the Sat. morning, should we
A) go ahead and put corn, molasses, and koolaid in it then check it that evening and Sunday? Or
B) leave the door up for a few days so they'll kinda get used to it, then fill it tues. or wed. to check the next weekend?

It may be a little soon, but it won't hurt to ride by and see. If its the type you build in place your going to be leaving a lot of scent. You building the octagon type out of cattle fence panels?

I've caught multiple hogs in just a few hours. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.
Leaving the gate up with no food in it doesn't make sense, they have no reason to go in it. I would put bait in it and leave the door open. That way all the hogs in the area will get used to going in and out. Once you have a large number using it, then you set the gate. If it's new and hogs come up to other ones trapped, they won't go in.
I find that just regular old deer corn works as well as any of those special hog blends. Especially when it's not deer season, you'll be the only one baiting, so it won't take much to get them drawn in.
Just my .02. Good luck!

We start baiting. Then build the trap around the feed site. Finally, we rig the trap and usually fill it up. They pretty cautious and around here, most have seen traps. Doing it this way increases your catch. Doing it right away make get you a couple small ones, but the odds of making a major dent goes down.
