Monty's tirades about his frustration with young guys at the end of the year said pretty clearly what the plan for next season was. They will use their cap space in FA and Trades to add veteran players that are ready to contribute. That's how they'll go from 27 wins to 38-45 wins.
I agree with you, as usual. There aren't many players that will make an immediate impact that would benefit Monty and Dell anyway this year. As McNamara points out, there were only two rookies last year that had a PER over 15 and played significant minutes. Only 4 if you reduce the minutes down.
Stashing Saric (I think he comes over, personally and doesn't spend a year in Europe) may actually help them: It gives them an extra 2.6 million to play with in FA.
I definitely think they go after multiple veterans to help out this year. They've got to get more consistent play, and they have got to get into the mid to upper 30s in wins to save their jobs.

Actually $3.2m since every team gives rookies 120% of the slotted amount, but I agree. That extra money may be the difference in landing the FA we want and settling for a plan C, or landing the FA we want and having the money to take on a guy like Deng for one season. Or that $3.2m could be used to sweeten the pot for a player like Korver or Webster to sign a one year deal with us, Landry/Kaman style.
But the article definitely helped sell me. The best point made was that he really seems like someone the Spurs would pick. I'd still rather Oladipo if he falls, even if we keep Gordon.

quote:Is that a good thing? This year's FA crop is terrible. I would hate for a rebuilding team like ours to waste our space on long term deals for marginal players that are not going to aid in the long term progress of the team. If Monty/Dell gets impatient and wastes money on marginal players, it will doom the rebuild. Hopefully they will look at shorter or bargain contracts.

I am all on board with picking him and stashing. There is no one in this draft that stands out. No one that I really think will make an immediate difference. So you take a guy that looks to have a very high ceiling, that you can stash in Europe and not have him count on the books. It is the perfect scenario for this draft.
