doubt it, but I sure hope he gets back to form.

Fabian Johnson will start, position TBD.

Other notable exceptions from the OP. Zusi, Gonzo, Chandler, Cherundolo, Cameron. It will be interesting to see what happens this upcomming year.

We need to focus on stealing 9 points over these next three games.

As I said, a way too early line up

and Adu is a game changer, you can hate all you want.

--------------Howard------------------
Chandler----Brooks---Cameron----Johnson
---------Jones--------Bradley---------
Zusi---------Deuce-----------Donovan--
-----------------Josmer---------------

I realize I'm way premature on Brooks. And I don't know if I'd be comfortable with that back line at all. Just spitballing.

Did Cameron die between now and the WC in your scenario?

I think our best back line at this point includes Chandler*, Besler, Cameron, and Johnson. The book's still out on Besler, but he has looked good so far.
If I were the coach, I would do everything I could to get them multiple games in a row together.

*Unless Dolo still wants to/can be part of the team going forward and can still be effective.

To state the obvious, we need to find the right combination on the left side. Someone above posted a Chandler/LB and Johnson/LM combination. That sounds good in theory, but IIRC Chandler didn't look all that comfortable playing on the left side.
DMB/Johnson running the left side together could present a lot of problems for a defense if they could really develop a connection.

I like this. Shea as a super sub and Zusi for sure to backup Old Man Donovan. Stu if he gets to form would be a nice choice, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think we'll know where Besler is after the three upcoming qualifiers.

If I needed two CBs for the World Cup tomorrow, I'd take Bocanegra and Cameron.

We'll see what changes the next 12 months bring.

Ditto.
Am I being too harsh on Gonzales? He had a great game at Azteca but had a tough time these last two games.
I could see him being great in a few years, especially after he shaves that long hair off.

Question: Given the choice, would you take a backline of Dolo - Demerit - Boca - Lichaj over the options we've already listed in this thread?

Lulz.

Two are (or never were) options under Klinsmann.

If Cherundolo and Bocanegra stay healthy playing first team football in the upcoming season, they would still be first choice for me.

Regarding Gonzalez, I agree with you. He's Gooch, circa 2004(ish) right now. There's good and bad associated with that.

If nothing else, if he progresses we get 2005-2009 Gooch out of him in the next cycle.
