Is there some easy to use guidelines to know how much of an article is allowed to be quoted or how long a quoted article can be? Also if it states within the quote something like, "according to....." Is that sufficient if it is from PFT mobile or should a link still be provided?
What about twitter sources, do they need a link as well or is posting the tweet good?

Asking such questions should heretofore be referred to as "pulling a Napoleon"

So if what is quoted includes source, a link still needs to be provided? Because PFT mobile doesn't have a web URL on the mobile app.

I am looking at guidelines now, these are ones I see that would pertain to a bit of what I asked in OP,

quote:

Post copyrighted material from other web sites.

• The “link” button allows you to link to other pages and create display text for that link. If you do not type in display text, the default “LINK” will show up.

• Finally, the “quote” button lets you highlight text from another post when you’re responding. You can do this one of two ways. You may copy and paste the text into the message field, select it again, and hit the “quote” button. Or, you may select the text in the original post as it appears at the bottom of the reply screen, and hit the button. It will automatically be pasted as a quotation.

Maybe I am over looking where it states how much can be quoted, if a link is needed if source is stated in quoted area, etc.

I could be wrong, but I think if you reference your quote as "according to Lisa and them", then that covers all of the bases.

quote:

For non-subscription based articles (like those you can find on ESPN.com or 2theAdvocate.com), you may provide a teaser paragraph or two with a link to the complete article.

Just give the reader a heads up of what the article contains and any other relevant info. It should be enough for me to decide whether or not I want to read further about the topic.

ETA: and yes you should include a link to give credit to the author of the article if you are directly referencing one.

Even when it states in quoted part something like, "according to Adam Scheffler of ESPN...."

Because I got a warning other day and what I quoted had sources listed within it

Yes because all you are doing is stating that the work is not your own. In order to give credit to the author on the internet, you need to provide a link so they can get the clicks and their analytics can track the linkbacks to see how much buzz the story generates.

and convenience for people wanting to see the proof and make sure someone isn't trolling, etc.

Understood, was curious since I have a few sports apps I get news from but they don't provide a URL within them for me to link. Last week chicken gave me a warning to provide link or get it removed so then I had to go online and search.

Yeah it sucks on mobile but i guess app designers didnt think about it ahead of time.
I dont have the PFT app but sometimes if there's a share button you can click share then email and it'll paste the link in an email allowing you to copy it. Beats having to open safari and search for it.
