I started at LSU in 1984, same year as Skip. I can tell you that baseball was nothing at LSU at the time. Admission was free. There was nothing going on at the Box at all. At KLSU, we hosted outdoor concerts in the outfield. Juke at the Box. That was the one grassy field that no one at the university cared whether it got messed up by erecting a stage and having a few hundred students run around and smoke stuff. LSU baseball was nothing. Then Skip got things going.

They could call it the Skip Bertman baseball program and rename the team the LSU Fighting Skips and it still wouldn't express what Skip meant to that program.
