Every clueless poster who thinks the Astros are merely pulling a Cleveland Indians from Major League should read this article and get an idea of the organization's long-term plan and strategy

I don't care what kind of bullshite they've sold you, the owners are pocketing the revenue sharing money at a rate never before seen while claiming they are just "rebuilding", plain and simple.

Maybe that will change in the future, maybe it won't. But don't give me this 10 year plan nonsense when you have no idea how many (if any) of these draftees will pan out. They are gaming the system at baseball and the fanbase's expense and have done such a good job of it that they have actually managed to convince the few Astros fans that still exist that it is somehow a good thing that they are fielding one of the worst teams of all time. It's impressive, really.

Farm system says otherwise.

With the background of Luhnow with the Cards and what he's putting together with Houston, you can believe what you want. There's no money to pocket. They're not winning. There's no one going to the games.

When the ownership ignores the farm system and the big league club, then sure....I'd believe that. But watching how much foundation they've built in the last two years alone, they're headed in the right direction.

why is it hard to believe that after seeing what the nationals were able to build fairly quickly since their move to DC, the astros would try the same? it's the best solution that doesn't involve mortgaging the organization for 1 or 2 star players.

Didn't you just start following baseball last month? It shows.

Yeah, they are walking the line in a big way.

But there's really nothing anybody can do about it. If people say, "Well you are just tanking on purpose," they can easily say, "Well we have this 10-year-plan in place, you can't tell me how to run my organization."

It's basically the Pittsburgh Pirates for the past 20 years.

I'm not saying they don't have a plan and aren't genuine about it, but it's definitely questionable.

i am no astros fan, and i'm certainly not a baseball fan, but what the organization is doing is smart

should they spend $60M this year to suck slightly less? what is the point of that? that is not logical

this is the gospel no matter a handful of naive sunshine pumpers think. also, DON'T FORGET THE EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS they pocketed to move to the AL. bud selig moved HIS team to the NL and then pushed for (NOT required as these naive folks think) and coerced the astros to replace them in the AL. frick 'em.
