Do any of you own or work at a computer company

that is hiring experienced Computer Scientists? I'm so frustrated with my husband submitting applications/resumes into a black hole and never getting an interview. Makes ya wonder if there is even really a job...
He doesn't want to program and hasn't done so in quite a few years, although he's done minor programming in Healthcare IT. He doesn't really want a road warrior job but is willing to travel some. He's very adaptable and has extremely high integrity. And he's excellent at finding ways to save money regarding utilization of computers. What gives?
Any hiring managers out there that can help?

If you husband is a computer scientist and doesn't want to program then he is in the wrong line of work.
I'm hiring a jr. linux administrator if he has linux skills but if he is that whiny about programming, then I don't know if I'd want him since unix administration of mostly programming scripts to automate your work.

What does he want to do? What kind of a role is he looking for? Project Management? Research? Can you elaborate a bit?

I understand this point but it isn't exactly accurate. He has over 15 years experience, a Master's degree, some Doctorate work and he teachings programming for 2 online universities (part time) yet did very little programming at the hospital. He was sorta a "jack of all trades" in his position and worked under tight budget constraints. And he isn't whiny (I assure you) but he is particular about his work. He wants to be challenged and says programming is mundane...

My company is desperate for more computer scientists. I majored in computer engineering and I am way more passionate about high level programming than I am with low level programming or circuit development.
As one poster said, if he is in computer science and doesn't like programming, he might need a new career. I would look at either the career center website of the school he graduated from, or linked in if you want to build off of a reliable network. Otherwise, he should take the shotgun approach and apply to every company that has an opening.

Yes, project management &/or consulting. He likes implementing projects, trouble shooting, and seeing them through. He also likes researching new technology. He was really good at finding alternatives to saving the hospital money since he worked at a state facility. Unfortunately, that is one of the reasons he left (budget cuts) & lack of challenging experiences. I guess you could say he outgrew it but he was certainly loyal (for too long if you ask me)!

Trust me, he has tweaked that resume and gotten so much feedback that there's nothing left to do. He had some interest in Epic Training since his background is healthcare but no one is hiring unless one has the certification already.
We live in the Hammond area...perfect for BR or NO work.

If he can't find a CS job in BR or NOLA with GE, IBM, and Ameritas looking for almost 1,500 employees, something is wrong IMO.

I'm willing to bet someone with 15 years experience and the ability to lead teams wouldn't be programming for 10 hours a day at GE New Orleans.

What is his history of delivering product? That is all that matters.
With 15 years' experience and graduate degrees he should have previous employers pleading for his time and be willing to pay for it. The fact that they aren't tells me all I need to know.
That doesn't mean all is lost, it just means he needs to advertise himself as a somewhat skilled developer instead of as something more. Emphasizing his graduate education probably hurts his chances, at this point in his career he should be able to point to delivered products instead.

It shouldn't...I think that's the problem he's having. If anyone looks at his resume they likely pre-judge him. The problem is he spent too much time in a job that held him back & stiffled him, IMO. He was loyal yet got no loyalty back. He did whatever the hospital needed (including minor coding), networking, servers, he designed the first & only intranet across 2 hospitals, built a training room, implemented toasters throughout to avoid purchase of extra computers, not to mention he worked across 2 facilities AND provided Tech Support to very demanding users. He also dealt with surplus equipment and developed relationships with local area educators. And that just scratches the surface. He was innovative in his position (especially with cost savings) yet never rewarded. I guess most of you would know little about working for the state but they prefer arse kissers regardless if they are lazy. My husband isn't an arse kisser but he's an extremely hard worker and very honest in what he does.
Epic wanted him but they only offer jobs in Wisconsin. You must relocate. Sorry, I'm not moving there. It's just so frustrating for both of us.
BTW, his graduate degrees are what he is leaning on now with his teaching jobs. That is, afterall, why he obtained a Master's in Computer Science. But that doesn't land him the fulltime job he's looking for..

GE in N.O. has plenty of cyber security jobs. I don't think he qualifies...? His background is healthcare, not business. That doesn't bode well for him.
He actually interviewed with Microsoft and made it to second round interviews but never made it to the regional interview. Ironically, his interviewer knew less than he did about the scenarios presented....

Well DUH! If you don't like something you probably don't want to put effort into it. But just b/c you don't want to do it doesn't mean you can't do it well.
