Weekly Waiver Wire and Buy/Sell: Who do you like?

*Just a thread to get some discussion going on who you think are the best waiver pickups are for each week.
*Also, please share your buy and sell players as well.
I'll start with 2 young prospects. If you have room on your roster to take a flyer they could potentially pay off immediately... at minimum they're worth a stash.
Marcell Ozuna OF, Marlins - Some thought he was rushed to the bigs... but through 9 games he is proving otherwise. ride him while he is hot or until Stanton gets back from the DL. even then I think they will find a permanent way to keep him playing. A must add IMO.
more notes:
Oswaldo Arcia OF, Twins - he definitely hasn't disappointed since being called up. he currently has a 7 game hit streak and is showing a ton of power with just 64 at bats with 3 HRs and 11 RBIs... impressive! The twins look committed to him all year. I'd run and add him to your roster if you haven't already.
more notes:
If you're looking for pitching...
Drew Smyly RP, Tigers - while you're waiting for him to make the starting rotation... he can be a solid addition that will help you lower your ERA and will also add a few notches to your weekly strikeout total.

The Marlins promoted Ozuna when Giancarlo Stanton went to the DL with a hamstring injury. He had been tearing up Double-A Jacksonville, hitting .333/.383/.810 with five homers and 15 RBI in just 10 games. In his first six games in the majors, he's 11-for-24 with a homer and four RBI. The Marlins have no justification to send him back to the minors, not with the way their offense has performed as a whole. If you add Ozuna, you won't just be getting a two-week rental player. He should be owned in all but the shallowest of formats.

Oswaldo Arcia went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored as the Twins beat the Red Sox 15-8 on Wednesday. the next night Oswaldo Arcia had a two-run homer and a triple to lead the Twins offense Thursday in a 5-3 win over the Red Sox. He'll go through the usual rookie growing pains, but he's got intriguing power. There are worse flyers in deep mixed leagues.
If you're looking for pitching...
Drew Smyly RP, Tigers - while you're waiting for him to make the starting rotation... he can be a solid addition that will help you lower your ERA and will also add a few notches to your weekly strikeout total.

This is more a speculative add based on the belief that Smyly will eventually make it into Detroit's rotation this year. In 10 relief appearances covering 20 innings, Smyly has a 1.35 ERA, 1.65 FIP and 21 strikeouts against five walks. His high strikeout rate and even ground ball/fly ball ratio makes him an ideal fit for the Tigers, a team that does not exactly boast the league's best infield defense. On the flip side of this zero sum, Rick Porcello has a 7.52 ERA and 4.90 FIP. He's barely striking out more than five batters per inning, and while his 57.6 percent ground-ball rate would be a huge asset on most teams, its value is marginalized in Detroit. I'm betting Smyly eventually takes his spot in the rotation. When he does, you'll be very happy you already have shares in the lefty.
what players are you keeping an eye on? who do you think is worth adding?

I picked both these guys up this week.

I nabbed Arcia in one league.
Wanted to grab him in another, but too many OF already there.

I grabbed both Arcia and Ozuna. My bench had some disposable players though, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to risk adding them. I feel good about it.
what other players do y'all like that are out there?

Sadly most people on here play in leagues with each other. Wouldn't want to tip my hand
I picked up Arcia and dropped him, unfortunately. I add/drop a lot and usually don't have the patience to wait on a guy. Dropped a lot of guys in the day who turned out to be solid players

A little too late now, but Scott Kazmir and Vernon Wells were two of my sleepers this year. I drafted Kazmir late only to drop him when he went on the dl.
I like to gamble on veterans with previous success in the majors over call ups when looking some waiver wire guys though
Like gyno said, I really don't want to say a couple guys I am considering because of being in td leagues.
This was a good thread topic though.

Being patient is by far the hardest part of fantasy baseball.
Also, getting lucky jumping on an average player who may be on a hot streak. Like Pedro Alvarez or Mark Reynolds, who both frequently homer binge.

Now is the time to grab Zack Wheeler if you're in a 12 team, non-keeper.

makes sense.
sucks, I've always appreciated your opinion on this board. there isn't too many people who actually like to give advice and tips, they only want to receive it. So at the least, how about you share player tips once you have already added them to your roster.
I'd like to keep this thread bumped to the top every week bc there really isn't any open conversation during fantasy baseball season like there is for football. fantasy baseball is long and grueling and even the best of us can't always keep up with every player.
****If anyone needs to add a SP just to use for this weekend, take a look at:
Roberto Hernandez Rays (aka Fausto Carmona)- only 3% owned on yahoo. he has an eye popping 37/11 K/BB ratio in 36 2/3 innings across six starts. He has a decent matchup at home vs the Padres on Sunday.

Agreed. I had him flagged all season and finally stashed him a few weeks ago. I ended up dropping him for Cashner who I think is gonna be lights out the rest of the way... So I'm hoping.

I've always been intrigued with Jimmy Paredes. Moderate pop, a little speed, multi position eligibility possibly. May be worth a deep league look. Rajai Davis is instant steals when he gets a start.
I read somewhere how steals are down like 35% this year compared to last year. So steal guys may be at a premium this season.
Pitcher wise, I like Kazmir as mentioned by VKC. He will get hurt eventually. I also thing Uehara will end up being the Sox closer

Zach McCallister has been lights out for CLE. He's a pitcher

David Phelps is one I am keeping an eye on.

i almost added him last night

I saw that Tazawa was named closer. You don't think he holds onto it? I need another closer bad. all I have right now at closer is Joe Nathan. Axford was my #2 to start, but that shipped sailed after week one
I'll keep an eye on Uehara.

yeah he has. but unfortunately he didn't fall through cracks and was scooped up awhile back. he is one of the better pickups so far this year IMO.
so far I have been pretty lucky at adding free agent pitchers... Wandy, Zito, and Cashner

Burch Smith is a guy to keep an eye out for.

Mitch Moreland.
On pace for around 30 homers which would be easily a career high. HR/FB ratio being the exact same as it was last year. He's just hitting more fly balls
His AVG, OBP and OPS are all up this year with virtually the exact same BABIP that he has had in years past.
His K% is slightly down and his BB% is slightly up - a good sign.
And most importantly - his splits are there: 286/345/449 vs LHP; 288/338/545 vs RHP

Should we just turn this into a rolling Fantasy Baseball Thread?
We could throw buy/sells in here too.
