Just got finished watching the Ten Commandments, and its simply a great film. I immensely enjoyed it and is still one of the best epics of all time. Definitely a landmark film. All the actors are simply great in it and you couldn't have found a better cast for it. However a film years later I think can completely stand up to it, and that is the Prince of Egypt. Yeah it tells the same story, but it focuses on the things the Ten Commandments didn't and glosses over alot of things the Ten Commandments did focus on (through musical numbers mostly).

I do have a major issue with the Ten Commandments, and its with Moses and Rameses. Both actors are great in their roles, and they're good on their own terms, but the film completely glosses over the fact that they're brothers in terms of the story. If the film didn't tell you they were brothers, you would never guess it from their interactions. Rameses simply doesn't give a damn when his brother returns after 20 years in exile after being presumed dead, and as cold as a Rameses as this film portrays him, I just really have a problem that your feeling of your brother coming back from the dead is indifference.

The Prince of Egypt on the other hand just nails this. They very clearly act like brothers around each other at all time, even when their war breaks out between each other. When Moses returns, Rameses is overjoyed and is in a state of disbelief on what Moses has come back to do. They both very clearly love each other throughout the film, but their destinies force them to collide in tragedy, to where neither of them want to be doing what they are doing.

I just think that's so much more satisfying than anything in the Ten Commandments that it really puts it over the top for me. I really love both films and think its very close for me. And side note, The Prince of Egypt is without question Dreamworks Animation's best film, and I don't think its even close. So what are yall's opinions on it?

Given they are both fantasy/sci fi movies, they suck imo.

Love me some Prince of Egypt! Even for an animated movie it stirs me emotionally. Those songs in the middle with the plague montage gets me pumped.

I've never seen the Ten Commandments but would love to. One thing I heard that was amazing on it from a production standpoint was they actually had 25,000 extras just to play the Hebrews in the background.
