False. The criterion is who was most valuable in the NBA.

You're arguing that the MVP is a team stat, and that a player should be rewarded for playing with an otherwise bad team and penalized for playing with an otherwise good team.

Whatever. I'm saying that, unless there is a specific criterion saying otherwise, it is perfectly valid to vote MVP based upon most valuable to his team (assuming the team achieves some measure of success).
