PayPal could forever change the way we use bitcoin
Wow...how big of a game changer would that be? I imagine Broke and Vols would change their stance on bitcoin. Russian would remain a moron though.

Can bitcoin enthusiasts put down the anti-Paypal pitchforks? PayPal has dominated the bitcoin news headlines over the last week with striking discussions from both PayPal and Ebay senior executives – they are openly discussing bitcoin, and in a positive light. However, no one has addressed why these headlines are important. PayPal most likely sees a business case in solving at least one of the four significant barriers to bitcoin seeing wider adoption: easy to use wallets, escrow for large transactions, quick acceptance by merchants, and reliable exchanges. PayPal can use its brand and infrastructure as a significant competitive advantage for solving the first two almost immediately, and could eventually be a game changer for the later two.

Think about this. How does Paypal get paid? Fees. What's the benefit of bitcoin (so you say)? No fees. This doesn't add up with their business model. At all.
ETA: I'm not changing my stance.

you better call up their executives quick:
quote:
“And I think here, for us at PayPapl, it’s just a question of whether Bitcoin will make its way to PayPal’s funding instrument or not, and we’re kind of thinking about it right now.” – David Marcus President, Paypal
“It’s the perfect currency by design… I think it’s a fascinating phenomenon and we are definitely watching it.” – Hill Ferguson VP Global Product, PayPal
“It’s a new disruptive technology, so, yeah, we’re looking at Bitcoin closely. There may be ways to enable it inside PayPal.” – John Donahue CEO, Ebay

I'm strictly talking about their current business model. If Paypal can figure out how to make some fee revenue out of it, they would use monkey turds as currency.

Don't know why you would be so excited about that considering all transactions and accounts in PayPal have history.

It's an acceptance thing at this point.

I have no problem with bitcoin catching on in a regulated environment. It'll help bitcoin grow.
Regulated, "legitimate" companies adopting bitcoin will not change or effect the nature of bitcoin in any manner. So their adoption can only help bitcoin in exposure and ease of use.

So you thought we would stop what we're doing

watch over an hour's worth of propaganda videos
No.
First off these aren't propaganda videos. They are essentially giving a basic overview of how crypto currencies work, how the network comes together, et cetra. Not one word from what I've seen speaks towards the viability of this to become a widely used currency.
Second, I didn't think you'd stop what you're doing because *gasp* you don't have to. It's very easy to wait until you have some down time to come and click on this thread and get the links to the videos and watch some of them. I probably won't watch every minute of all these videos, but I'll watch some. That's what I expected most of you to do.

As for the Khan Academy videos, I watched the first one. I learned nothing I hadn't learned from my own reading about Bitcoins. I'll give one of the other videos a shot later.

He really does hate Russian. I mean he's gone like 10,000 posts without responding to him

I know that Jeff Berwick and the BitcoinATM people had a falling out,
They didn't have a "falling out." His partner stole his money and expertise and then told him to GF himself.
In his own words Berwick wrote...
quote:
And then the 23 year old entrepreneur, Evan Rose, who was half-owner of the BitcoinATM notified me a few days ago that my participation was no longer necessary.
That was interesting, I thought, as we had an agreement for my involvement and I had done everything I said I would do.
It turned out that once I had put BitcoinATM on the world stage he decided to take all that I had done and dismiss me.
I do not wish to publish dirty laundry... and while the actions of the co-founders of BitcoinATM were incredibly dishonorable, I put it down it to them being much like me I was when I was 23... young, unwise and unaware of what they are even involved with.

Why would anyone be surprised that any person involved with bitcoin would be dishonorable? For a "product" that relies upon trust, it sure seems bitcoinistas can't be trusted.

I posted "falling out" for that reason. We don't know if he wasn't paid or anything. Plus we don't know anything about the agreement. All we know is Berwick's side.
And I'm a big fan of Berwick too (Anarchast is great).

The main arguments went from "No intrinsic value" to "the government will not allow it".
To be fair, that's always been my argument. Governments are kind of weird in that they tend to not like any threats to their control.
