The beta forum is nothing but XI players whining about how good it used to be, so I'm curious if this is true.

I agree. I played FFXIV in original beta and release. It was just stale compared to WoW and FFXI. I'm probably going to blindly try ARR when it's live. I used to do every Closed/Open Beta I could but I would get burned out doing the early levels once the game became live.
