Because the rounds have a very steep taper.
I think this will be a good product for Magpul. I bet the plastic will be better quality and it will probably weigh less than other AK mags.

Why would they release the magazines for the 74 when it's not nearly as popular? I'm sure this will be the next step, but the 47 has to be first.
Magpul is also throwing out their new 1911 grips that look pretty sweet.
I bet down the road they'd release a lightweight M1A magazine. On a bigass 308 rifle, any weight savings would be a huge step in the right direction.
