edm is as good as its ever been production wise and daft punk hasnt been doing anything compared to plenty of the heavy hitters.

just off the top of my head, a group in the past few years that i would put way ahead of daft punk is pendulum.

"EDM" is a pretty dumb phrase and I don't think Daft Punk even fits that category anymore. Their latest song was recorded with the traditional guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Sure they became famous via house music 18 years ago but they have evolved since then.

They also have a big crossover appeal. I know several people that hate DJs and that whole "scene" yet love Daft Punk (hip hop people from the Kanye collab, top 40 listeners, and especially jam band fans)

I was just reusing what the guy was saying kind of as a blanket term. We can just say electronic music

Plenty of electronic music is like this. Many of the producers also play a wide variety of instruments and use them in their music. Daft punk using guitar, bass, and keyboard isnt saying anything special about them at all.

The group I mentioned, Pendulum, uses a variet of instruments in their music also. Guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, saxophone, trumpet, trumbone, etc. Their live act uses pretty much everything except the brass.

as has all the electronic music. was saying that while they rarely ever tour and havent put out anything, in what 6 years, the current people are making great music.

Oh I know they have a huge fanbase. When people were riding around with cd cases in their car, everyone had a daft punk cd or at least a mix cd that had some songs on it. That doesnt make them any better than they actually are. I agree though that they have a ton of influence over the electronic music world and theyre living legends in that sense
