That's the thing. I don't think Robinson is a nickel corner as in a slot guy. Seems to me he needs to be put outside as a mostly press cover guy and left alone. Ryan's M.O. indicates that will be how he is used.
Problem with that is Greer is DEFINITELY not a NB. He is not quick or built to cover slot guys. He is a technician that knows how to work the outside.
If Greer isn't starting on the outside he isn't playing and we can't cut him because of his contract.
PRob is at least somewhat suited to the slot. I agree he plays better outside but imo not better than Greer and I don't think Lewis was brought in to play NB. White can play the nickel, along with Vacarro so I think that means PRob is SoL.

There are maybe 2 safeties i can think of who are legit game changers. Troy Paulamaoulo(SP?) and Ed Reed. Sharper 2009 too
Earl Thomas 2010- present
Vaccaro looks up to Thomas and sees his former UT teammate as a "big brother/ mentor.

I don't like Robinson very much but Greer may still go despite the contract details. He is injury prone while the Saints still think Robinson can be useful as a younger, physical player. Again, I do not agree with it, but let's see how the rest of the offseason goes. For this season, P-Rob is more secure than Greer whether we like it or not.

Let me restate the Greer situation. If we cut him we LOSE cap room. We cannot cut him. Question is do we bench him? I don't see it.
Edit:
And I just checked and we cannot cut PRob either. They will both be here.

If I read sportrac right, Greer's cap hit for 2013 is 5,425,000 with 3,975,000 of it as dead money if cut this year. The Saints would save $1.45M against the cap if they cut Greer.

They are pretty accurate but they did not add in Greer's guarantees for this year(they don't add in things they don't have details of).
I think rotoworld had the correct numbers for him. I think it came out to a loss of a million or so.

Trying to do the math now.
Okay did the math. Pretty sure he hit his $400,000 roster bonus by now but not his $100,000 workout bonus(which will be soon).
If we cut him we at best save $100,000 and out worse come out even if I did the math right.
Someone else had different math so I'll double check mine, but if it's right we could cut him but I doubt it as we gain basically nothing while losing a starting caliber corner.

It certainly would have been interesting if Asomugha would have signed here. Ryan wanted him to start, so then we'd be looking at Greer and Robinson on the bench.

I'm an idiot. I forgot to add in the future years' signing bonuses. So we'd lose almost 4 mil in cap room.
I think if he's a June 1st cut it'd turn back into a wash this year(probably still not doing that right as I'm sure we'd lose something this year), but we'd take a $4 mil hit next year.
We are not doing that being even worse against the cap next year.

I had high hopes for Jenkins and PRob but I have lost almost all faith in Jenkins and this is PRob's last year getting a pass from me.

On WWL Thursday, Rob Ryan listed Will Smith as an OLB.
