Not having much experience with trials by first day does that mean they're hearing testimony and stuff from witnesses or picking jurors?

Jury was picked on April 10th according to one of the FB updates I saw. I assume they are in the first day of hearing testimonies. I've never been in/to a trial so I can't say for certain.
