Avengers was a fun movie top to bottom. It made me happy that I lived long enough to see such a cool translation of comics into live action film. It was funny. It was exciting. It was cool to watch. Is it a deep sophisticated movie with powerful themes? Nope. But its a nonstop fun ride.
TDKR was a mess. It had some really good parts, but overall it just didn't hold together. People doing things for no obvious reason (yes, if you micro-analyze it, you can kind of figure out why everyone did what they did - but should you really need to work that hard in this type of a movie??). Plus, there were slow stretches for good chunks of the movie. It was just uneven.
TDK was a much better movie in that it had a more focused plot and a more coherent theme. Heath Ledger put in the best performance in any of the 3 Bat movies. But even that movie was bloated and could have done w/a good 30 minute excision of fat.
BB is arguably the best of the Nolan trilogy b/c other than the very ending, where it degenerated into more of a flashy action movie, it was extremely tight and focused and gave what's easily the best interpretation/explanation for the Batman character on the screen to date. It laid it out its theme about conquering one's fear and then ran with it throughout the movie. I can see the argument though the TDR is a better movie only insofar as BB has no performance close to Heath Ledger's Joker.
