Any students going to LSU's Student Appreciation Day open practice on April 18?

I might head out there. I went last year and it was actually really cool. The autograph thing is kind of dumb for college students, but we got some swag and saw some cool stuff.

Can anybody confirm any truth in what my friend told me?

Apparently Les Miles was extremely against the open practice to students, but Herb and Alleva wanted it, so they told him to do it anyway.

I think he was against it last year

If I were the coach, I probably wouldn't want to waste time doing this

That was the rumor, but I don't think it was true. Either it wasn't true, or Les Miles ended up having a blast with it. He was joking around with all the students and seemed to love having all the students there.

Eh, outside of the end of practice, the students being there didn't really stop or slow the flow of practice. Most just sat or walked along the sides.

There were some silly games afterwards, but I think the players enjoyed it more than anyone else.

I'm not happy that I have work at 5, but I might be there for 45 minutes. It was a lot of fun last year. Especially that big guy getting really drunk and catching punts.

I'm not a student but I'll be there with a buddy who donates a lot to TAF. Apparently if you're high enough on the TAF list you can go too.

It was pretty great last year. At the end of practice CLM let some students run drills while all the players watched/laughed, then put all the students in a huddle and gave a speech.

Pretty damn cool.

This is one of the awesome things about LSU athletics; they find ways to get on the same level as the fans. They know how passionate we are about LSU football and I think it shows that they appreciate our dedication to the team. Even though the players are strictly business at practice, I think they got a kick out of seeing a couple hundred students show up last year just to watch two hours of drills.

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal, but I doubt many other schools do this kind of thing for their fans. The coach in Tuscaloosa probably wouldn't even entertain the thought.

If it really was idea that happened to leak out last year, it couldn't have worked out much better. Props to LSU. They hit the nail on the head with this one.
