Spend money on glass not metal, if your pump gun can shoot a 1 inch group at 100 yards I would buy the scope now, put it on the old rifle, and start saving for a new bolt action and just transfer the scope once you get a new gun

I sold high end guns/optics/equipment for several years.....
don't waste the money on a new rifle and iffy optics, just buy optics. 30mm Swarovski or Schmidt and Bender and thank me later. Also, don't go cheap on the mounts, buy the best you can afford... at least the leupold brand mounting systems.
your gun im sure is fairly accurate, you can't shoot what you can't see. If you want to compare before you buy go to the store at night or late evening and ask them to go with you outside to compare. Also helps if said store has a dark alley or isn't brightly lit around the area....
