On the last day of a major I would basically have to post up at the 18th and wait for the finish IMHO. That would suck because you would watch the same shots all day.
I've been to the Memorial once and the Wachovia/Wells Fargo several times. The best way to enjoy a tourney is to drink some beers with yoru friend and to continually leap frog the group you want to see.
ETA: I've never paid for tickets.

At Augusta half the fun is hearing the roar of the crowd and racing to the leader board to see who's score they update. Not to mention that towards the end of Sunday it is really difficult to not be somewhat involved in the action with only a couple groups still playing.
