Here is how I see it and I have lost four friends on Facebook over this...

You can be a legit fan even though you didn't attend a single class on the campus. However, don't use the term "we" when talking about that team unless you are an alum or current student.

I don't care if people use we, but I personally do not when talking about Ohio State. I really consider my fan ship with them the same way I do with all my pro teams. I know plenty of people that went to school there, even though I did not, and the school makes tons of money off of people like myself, so I am not bothered that I cheer for the school, and I don't think the school is bothered either.

This rule makes it suck for all those people who were either too unfortunate or stupid to attend the school of their choice and had to settle for a lesser school.
