Investigative Journalism is far from what ESPN does. They have ventured into the realm of sensationalism. This was first reported in November when Rice was suspended and fined and Pernitti was open about it. However ESPN was in the middle of their CFB season and did not have time for it.
But once the nation had its eyes on the tourney specifically after the Ware injury what a great time to really open up a story.
at least someone can view this without the blinders on like everyone else

His point is the clear and undeniable bias by ESPN. They report what is in their best interest and push issues that fit their agenda. Point is that in my OPINION both Rice and those responsible at ND should be fired.
Pernitti corrected the problem by stopping it and being a better person than any of us here by giving the guy a second chance. Warranted or not, the behavior did stop.

So ESPN wants to get higher ratings so they can get more advertising dollars from sponsors? Interdasting

isn't that the point of any business...to make money?

That's my point, it's not journalism or sports reporting. It's selective reporting for the purposes of sensationalizing it so casual fans can be attracted to watch because of the controversial nature of it. A sports media company should have not have a bearing on who gets fired whatsoever.

Yes. Entertainment companies that own TV channels want to maximize eyeballs in order to maximize ad revenue.
But most entertainment companies don't tell everyone everyday that they are actually a news organization.

Refusing to believe the other side might have a valid opinion is the definition of having blinders on.

Investigative journalism is a form of journalism in which reporters deeply investigate a single topic of interest, often involving crime, political corruption, or corporate wrongdoing. An investigative journalist may spend months or years researching and preparing a report. Investigative journalism is a primary source of information.[1][2][3][4] Most investigative journalism is conducted by newspapers, wire services, and freelance journalists. Practitioners sometimes use the terms "watchdog journalism" or "accountability reporting."
Seems fitting. Might not have been a "60 Minute hit piece " that spanned years but I dont see where the term is off?
Did they sit on the story? Did they have the tape in december? Lets start with what we know to be true instead of hearsay, conjecture and opinion.

Yeah there is no respect here for ESPN. They have destroyed quality sports reporting.

Who should be reporting on this "sports news"?
Posted on 4/5/13 at 2:21 pm to ProjectP2294
Here come the conspiracy theorists.
Its all a set up. They digitally altered what the coach did and the BBall is actually CGI. Matter of fact the whole thing took place on a ESPN set in Bristol.

ESPN can definitely report this. IN NOVEMBER when the story broke. They should have reported what evidence they had, procurred what Rutgers AD was very open about and reported what the university was doing in repsonse ie suspension and fine. Not bring in everyone who ever touched a basketball to comment on and have their personalities make outlandish statements like Goulic.
Report it as it happens and investigate at that moment. Waiting so long to really push when the eyes are on the sport for something positive like the tournament is sensationalism.

Entertainment company that tells everyone they are actually a news organization is the definition of Fox News. Disney has turned ESPN into the Fox News of sports.

The frick are you talking about?
I've never said Rice did nothing wrong. My beef is with the way ESPN has handled this story and always has been.

Well they sure as hell didn't show the other 1,094 days coaching with issues......
Where was that video?
Oh, I must have missed it

Based off of what physical evidence? What I seriously do not know and want to know is when did the video surface?

However you look at it or who you choose as your comp, you definitely understood the point I made. ESPN and Fox News aren't the only ones out there, though.

this right here is why im so pissed that pernetti was forced to resign:
LINK
"As you know, my first instincts when I saw the videotape of Coach Rice's behavior was to fire him immediately," wrote Pernetti. "However, Rutgers decided to follow a process involving university lawyers, human resources professionals, and outside counsel. Following review of the independent investigative report, the consensus was that university policy would not justify dismissal. I have admitted my role in, and regret for, that decision, and wish that I had the opportunity to go back and override it for the sake of everyone involved."

Pernetti gets forced out for a decision he wasn't allowed to make.
Thanks ESPN.

This is from USA today on Dec 13 after Rutgers had done an investigation and rendered a decision. ESPN at that moment should have investigated it and within a few weeks rendered their reporting on it.
Not here in April 4 months later. Thats the whole point.
