Thinking about doing a Moisin Nagant Sporter conversion.

Just because ammo prices are through the roof and I miss shooting. I have all the tools the only thing I lack is the raw mats. Anyone else have experience with these rifles?

Some will criticize you for "butchering" a classic. I say, if they're classics, wtf are they so cheap? There are plenty out there for both.
When my C&R License gets here, I'm gonna do one. Monte Carlo stock and a scout-style scope mount.

No but I have a pair of sporterized mausers.
Do it. Old military rifles make great hunting and shooting rigs when you cut all the extra shite off and put a scope on them.

I cant agree with the classic monkier with all the communist bloc copies out there. Its not like Im cutting up an original 1903 Springfield. I just want something to practice my marksmanship with that doesnt cost me $1 every time I send lead down range.
Are you going to shape from a blank or use a semi inlet?

Price out the rifle + shipping + FFL + stock/turned down bolt/etc and tell me it's not cheaper to just go pickup a used Savage 110 from the pawn shop for $225-$250.

One of my mausers as it sits (minus the scope) costed a whopping $150, and that's including the scope bases and rings.
Now of course the sky's the limit and you could run a build well beyond $1000, but they can be "sporterized" by anybody with a few common tools.

I have one, but I just shoot it.
I don't care about the collectibility value, it's just a cheap arse rifle that I wouldn't want to waste any money on besides buying cheap ammo. Offhand, open sights at 100 yards, if I'm on paper, that's fine with me.

I plan to buy one of one of those $90 stocks and just drop int in?

That is what I thought about when I read your post. I have been thinking about grabbing one lately, Bud's has chinese carbines in stock for $120 and classic firearms has m44 carbines in stock for $220

I doubt it's a perfect drop in fit. Usually they require a little fitting but its very easy to do with a dremel and some sandpaper. You might get luck though.
Just take your time and enjoy shooting it.

I have a sporterized 6.5mm Carcano rifle and it shoots very straight. Exploring the scope mount options as well.
