It is still entirely possible for them to buy from a retailer by buying in bulk, unassembled...but it seems they are purchasing overstock from distributors and sending them to Sam's HQ for redistribution to stores.
Either way, the moral of the story is don't buy from Sam's if you want a lifetime warranty from BGE.

Sam's will refund the price that was paid, lifetime. Sounds pretty good to me.

Or just don't buy a BGE period if they can't back the product being sold be an extremely reputable retailer who they themselves offer a lifetime 100% customer satisfaction guarantee
