He wasn't drafted last year because teams weren't going to waste a late pick on him. Katz told them he was returning if he wasn't drafted by "X round", which would guarantee "X amount" of money. Had Katz been a senior, he would have gotten drafted, it just wouldn't have been real high, probably in the 20's.

Taking Mainieri's word, there's a quote somewhere that said teams were calling Mason around round 10 and Katz told them no.
