Oakland Raiders trades for Matt Flynn, Carson Palmer to Arizona

There were rumors last week, but now it looks official. This may affect not only the Raiders picking a QB before the Saints pick, but there are rumors of Carson Palmer going to Arizona. Does that mean they may pass on a QB too?
I honestly thought Geno Smith would be picked by the Raiders, and he still may be. But now we have to hope Philly, Buffalo, Arizona or the Jets really like Smith. It also seems like this makes Matt Barkley's drop past the Saints inevitable.

The Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks have pulled the trigger on a trade that will send quarterback Matt Flynn to the Raiders in exchange for a pair of draft picks, reports Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the picks the Raiders have shipped to the Seahawks include picks in 2014 and a conditional draft choice in 2015.

The Raiders also are trying to finalize a deal with the Cardinals to send Carson Palmer to Arizona for a late-round draft pick, sources informed of the talks told Rapoport. Palmer is expected to restructure his contract in order to make the deal happen. No matter where Palmer lands, his brief career with the Raiders is over.

Quarterback Carson Palmer was traded from the Oakland Raiders to the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday in a deal that includes the swap of 2013 draft picks and a conditional pick in 2014.

Palmer will help solidify a Cardinals quarterback position that has been in flux since Kurt Warner retired after the 2009 season.
Quarterback Drew Stanton signed with Arizona last month, following new coach Bruce Arians after a season with the Indianapolis Colts. At the time of the signing, Arians said he was confident Stanton could handle the starting job, but it's expected Palmer now occupies the top spot.
On Monday, the Cardinals released quarterback John Skelton, who started 17 games for the team the past three seasons.

If it's not an April Fool's Day thing, I think it'll be a good opportunity for both him and the team. Good move imo. Probably the best guy on the market for the cost.

What does this have to do with the saints?

it's a 5 step program that links it to the draft to the saints draft pick available prospects.

I would feel so bad for Flynn if Geno Smith got the job over him too

Well we are in the market for a backup QB, so I guess it could be...
Not a problem with this since Flynn played for LSU and all, in my opinion anyway.

If Carson goes to Arizona, the Cardinals have to release a QB.
That QB will likely be Skelton who the Saints could sign as the backup to Brees.

There are some really good defensive players and offensive tackles in the draft this year, but we need some offensive guys like Geno Smith, T. Ausin and C. Patterson to get picked before 15 for guys like Jones, Ansah or Mingo to fall to us.
We were hoping Geno Smith went early and maybe Berkley got picked as well. That's looking less likely with all these QB moves though.

Is this what it's like to be a falcon's fan?

While the news of two Qbs going to 2 top ten teams who were potentially in the market for drafting Qbs is not good in terms of hoping a defensive stud falls to us, there is a bright side. Palmer to the Cardinals along with the signing of Mendenhall, the development of Michael Floyd at WR, and of course having Larry Fitz makes Zona a much better offensive team. This is good for the Saints because that is 2 games each for the Seahawks and 49ers that went from easy W's to somewhat more difficult games. As competitive as the NFC will be this year, any outside aide helps. Palmer is over the hill, but when he wasn't scrambling for dear life in Oakland he still made plays through the air.

What are the chances geno smith is takin by the raiders and Flynn loses out his starting job to another qb rookie? That would be nuts

I hope this doesn't happen. Out of curiosity, I'd just like to see what Flynn can do as a starter for a year.

Flynn always did a good job following JaMarcus. Just sayin....

I would much prefer Flynn as a backup for Brees than anybody else the Saints could acquire.
