All depends on what you want to do.
6800XT is more powerful than the 3080 and overclocks have set a new standard in PC gaming with 2.6GHz+ OC averages on air, with the 6900XT about to break the record all over again next week. All of this on a better chip and a better process doing so more efficiently at less power.
So it just depends really. I love to tinker, I take apart my CPU's and GPU's and repaste before I even install them. I want to OC and squeeze every little ounce out of it and benchmark the shite out of it.
Since the 30xx basically can't OC/has little to no headroom, and once OC vs OC is taken into account the AMD cards win in just about every game in the 30 game test and even beats the 3090 as well, I'll get it. Gonna try for 6900XT but 0.1% chance I can get one.
I'm fine with chilling into January though until I can get one at MSRP which is cheaper than the less performing for me, 3080 offering.
DLSS is great, no doubt. It will be replaced by AMD's offering that is open source and heading to consoles, but that is still months away.

Just not what I have been seeing from friends rigs. They are trading blows. Both are great cards. DLSS and RTX are just too nice right now. If I had to stick with a card for more than a gen, this would be a much tougher call for me though.
3090 isn’t a surprise, if you are buying it for gaming you are doing things wrong. It’s a rendering monster. Gonna save me a lot of time if I can ever get a damn cpu.
