Posted by Message ILikeLSUToo PC Discussion - Gaming, Performance and Enthusiasts I ordered the e10 for my Q701, coming in Friday. I probably should've just gotten an amp, because loudness is my only issue.
Fiio e10 is both an amp and a dac
Volume won't be an issue with the q701. They should sound pretty good on their own without an amp or dac fwiw
Edit: misread your post. I don't think a dac is a bad idea. But If You already have a decent sound card, that e10 dac isn't going to be an improvement really

He doesnt have a sound card, just on board audio.
I say get a DAC even if you believe your stream is clean. I didn't believe my stream was full of noise until using my Modi.

I know it's an amp/dac, so what I'm saying is perhaps I should've just spent the money on something that only operates as an amp, thus getting a better amp for the money, since I experience no noise with my onboard sound.
Also, I already own the Q701s. Came in yesterday, and no, they aren't loud enough. The question is whether the amp will help -- and I only wonder because my motherboard already has a headphone amplifier for headphones up to 600ohm. Still too quiet for the environment I work in because they are open headphones.
I'm not looking for a DAC that's better than my onboard ALC1150, but I also don't want it to be worse.
