I've seriously considered IT work myself, but the time needed to gain experience at low pay isn't really a viable option for me at this point. Plus, I feel like I won't enjoy it as a hobby anymore once it becomes a job. That's what happened to me with writing. Used to love writing and editing, then I got published, then I started regularly contributing to a magazine, then got another gig for an online newsletter, then got promoted to editor-in-chief of the other magazine, followed by getting a job after college where a major part of my job is writing, editing, and formatting documents... and now I don't write for fun anymore. The PC guide is the longest thing I've written in years, by far.

I still enjoy building/talking about computers so im not too worried about that. also my next position i probably will not build or fix a pc thatll be for the guy under me.

i really lucked into this job tho.
lucked into the internship. lucked into the head tech leaving. lucked into the secretary (who also did the invoicing) leaving.
i rolled right into head tech and invoicing/inventory control/etc and instead of replacing the secretary hired a girl to just answer phones, check people out, and keep our work calenders up to date. money saved on the secretary went to me in the expanded role.

ive started to kinda look around, not apply, but see whats available and what certs are needed. the pay range is WILD. seemingly similar job titles, duties, and requirements have up to $20k a year difference in pay.
