NVIDIA's response to the 290x is awesome, and I'd totally just try a single 780 Ti if I could get an easy sale of my 7970s + backplates + waterblocks for at least $700. But it still pains me to think I'd be breaking even for a performance cut.
Yeah, only bright side would be less headaches with those SLi/CFx issues. (Even though I really get none these days)
I would just be purchasing the 3GB reference model because Maxwell is rumored 3-4months out. So, not going all in on 2x780Ti. Will use my Titan's blocks for the 780Ti hopefully.

3 4K monitors probably wouldn't push that
I remember watching video of 3x4K monitors on 4xTitans. It was BARELY hitting the 6GB VRAM limit.
EDT:
That wasn't a modded game or anything, believe it was Crysis 3.

If Crossfire were giving me issues like it had been with the 6000 series, I'd consider selling them for a less power single GPU setup, but crossfire has been fine. I'm even monitoring frame time using my logitech LCD and afterburner, and they've been pretty steady.

You going to test out gsync when it comes out?

Yeah, isn't like it was. I remember AMD CFx giving me headaches and basically unplayable. You do know that is what drove me to a 560Ti a little after the 5 series launch.

Yeah if the monitors which support it are 1440 @ 60/120hz and are reasonably priced. Not paying $700 for a monitor which will provide about the same experience. (I'm guessing) My plan wasn't to upgrade monitors until resonable 4K @ 60htz or a true 1440 @ 120htz.
I have a feeling the monitors to feature GSync in the next 3-6months will only be 1080/120-144htz monitors.

This is scary.

They haven't released all details yet but they are supposed to have a chip you can use to mod monitors and add it in. People are hoping that means they can all put it on their korean monitors.
And Auburn isn't know for bad crime either but it can happen anywhere. That shite makes me want to go play batman to beat up bad guys, or play GTA to kill everyone, either way...

Wow thanks for this info. Did not know that.
I changed the PCB on my CrossOver so it could be overclocked to 120htz. Only problem is IPS panels look terrible refreshing past 85-90FPS, so I lock it in right under.

The idea has me very excited. If one thing drives me crazy its stuttering and trearing. smooth motion is very important to me.

Some life changes coming for me in the next couple of months I hope to be settled and upgrading in the spring. It's killing me not to be doing it now.

Good luck with all that. I'm helping my friend replace a kicked in door right now. ..

Just in time for most releases.

I second that, but i'm sounding like a fanboy again but nVidia drivers have provided much smoother animations. Also raw processing power for better cards also helps out.
My 690 had weird stuttering in some games. IDK the reasoning but I know dual GPU cards have a slightly different SLi/CFx interface. This causes choppier frames compared to regular SLi/CFx configurations.
EDT:
Believe me, smooth animations, color and video fidelity are extremely important to me. Reason I game on a 1440 IPS and try having all high performing systems. I'm not the one who cares about 120FPS but 70-80FPS of rich, smooth images on a correctly color calibrated panel.

Update on the door: replaced thank god he had a neighbor with some good tools or else I would still be over there. Funny thing is they took all that stuff including the Xbox but they left his wii
Back to nerd talk... Apparently refresh rates are a thing of the past because of crt's. I'm guessing lcd's used it for easier compatibility with graphics cards and what not, not sure... If the geniuses that got there for their panels were correct, and I do trust them more than others, this just smooths all animation so much. They were saying even if you have a fluctuation from 30-60 it keeps it smooth. This is a tech that excites me and if legit, I will switch to green in a heartbeat

Oh yeah, no doubt. Everyone.. no matter the system has dropped frames in some games or "a game", simply because of bad coding. There are several areas in multiple games where I go from locked in 75fps to 30, simply because of bad code.
Hopefully this tech will smooth those areas out like you stated.

This is another area I get a hard on for... nice tools.
I love collecting bad arse tools for every little job. Makes working around the house easier and damn near fun. My next big purchase will be a drill press. Really want a Geared Head drill but cheapest is 2K. Will most likely settle for a cheaper Belt Driven 28mm drill press.
