So most oc editions use non reference voltage locked pcb's?
No, it's hit or miss whether or not you get a reference PCB, but if the card is voltage locked, it usually can be changed by a bios change

MSI Twin Frozr 7970-- Dual Bios, Reference PCB, factory overclocked, non-reference cooler, unlocked voltage.

Sadly I already forgot about that. We should get a sticky for it!

Nah, I'm just going to spam it when it's relevant. It won't be in the first post of this thread for a while since Coyote has vanished, but even then, who really reads the first page of this thread? God help anyone who wants to catch up on the last 6 months.

Has anyone had problems with the amd 13.11 beta drivers? It just made my PC go to crap... Luckily I set a restore point before I did it
Edit: well looks like any driver is screwing it up. Every time after I install the drivers and restart, it black screens after the windows logo
Edit2: all working

3DMark is also on sale on steam for $8.50. I think most of us should buy it for the epeen competition. 3DMark11 is also on sale for $6.50.
Which is best for epeen measuring?
Edit: First bench on my new build. 3770k at stock, 7970 at an easy 1125/1375 at stock voltage. Max temp was 70C with a max fan speed of 52%

I think we've always used 3DMark 11 when comparing here.

I think one of those versions has steam achievements.
Is coyote dead? Is he going to resurface when the new premier amd card drops and have 4 of them?

Resurrect, but yes I see 4 new cards in his future although he is an nVidia guy.

Any rumors on when the 290 and 290x will be released? Hell, when will the 280x go on sale?
Posted on 10/9/13 at 9:43 am to Mr Gardoki
NDA for 290 and 290x is gone on the 15th, so anytime after that.
Posted on 10/9/13 at 10:05 am to Mr Gardoki
Yeah, my current decision is to get the 7970 now, or the equivalent "new" designation when it comes out

r9 280x is the 7970 successor. I want that asus r9 280x OC card. It is going to be $310 and looks to be a great value. That would be clutch just in time for Arkham Origins but I don't see it happening.

Depends on what you mean by successor. 280x is the equivalently priced/performing card I'm guessing. But the 7970 was the flagship single GPU card of the 7000 series, just like the 290x is of the new series. Unfortunately, it will be double the price of the 7970 but not double the performance.
I generally wait about a year before buying into a new GPU release.

I bought a 3dmark code a couple of weeks ago. I like it a lot but that may be because I've ran 1000s of 3dmark11 benches and I'm tired of it.
It seems as if its harder to get a high score on.
