Oz (HBO)

After watching The Wire and The Sopranos on HBOGO the last year I'm lost without a new TV show. I decided to give Oz a shot since it has generally good reviews and I enjoy HBO series.
I'm 2.5 episodes in and it just isn't grabbing me. The concept seems really great but I keep thinking it could be done better. I loved the realism of the Wire and kind of expected it in Oz to an extent. Immediately some of the plot devices just seem so ridiculous and far-fetched. I don't necessarily think it's bad so far but I'm feeling a little underwhelmed.
Should I stick with it/does the series get any better? General consensus seems to be that the first few seasons are good and then it falls off a cliff.

I'd stop where you're at. It REALLY jumps the shark after the first couple of seasons. Beecher killing the Nazi co with his fingernails was the beginning of the end.

I watched the first couple seasons of Oz and thought it was pretty good. But I dropped out of it around season 3. So if you're not liking it now, you probably won't later.

He must be hiding some sort of growth or tumor under it.

I watched every episode and towards the end I had no idea why I was doing this to myself. It was terrible. Bad acting and bad script...completely unconvincing.

I was ok with it while I was watching it as it happened, even though they clearly got way too outrageous. And it doesn't hold up at all, I tried watching it again a few years ago and lost the nostalgia bug before I finished season 2.

If you can get past the prison rape, I think it's a damn good show. Schillinger is the shite

I think its fun to go back and see all the actors that you recognize now as they were earlier in their careers. Like seeing Allstate's Mayhem 100 lbs ago as O'Reilly.

And Charlie Francis as Alvarez
Such a loveable dude in Fringe
In Oz he shits in his hands and smears it on the cell wall

I always liked Wayne Campbell's (Wayne's World 1 and 2) cameraman as Tobias Beecher. Such a turnaround.

So it seems like I should stop watching it. What HBO series would y'all recommend then?
Already hit the big two and the three war mini series.

Six Feet Under is really good
Rome is great
Deadwood is a favorite on this board, though I didn't much care for it

Loved Oz through the first half of the fourth season. It jumps the shark after that in a big way.
I still enjoyed it all the way through. My main issue is the way they wrapped up the storyline that started with Episode 1 and lasted until the series finale.
