lack of versatility in terms of blocking/catching out of the backfield
I don't see this as an issue. It's an issue for LSU's offense obviously because we don't do it. One of the easiest passes that can be made is a dumpoff to the RB. I don't recall us having a bunch of dropped passes on dumpoff's to the RB. What I do recall is our coaching staff being too dumb to use it. Maybe that will get fixed with Cam.

OK, maybe he has decent hands, I seem to remember him dropping a few, maybe I'm wrong or he could obviously improve that.
But... he HAS to be able to pick up blocks in the backfield, which is way harder in the NFL than in College, if he wants to make it.

Don't worry, some NFL team will get another relatively unused good RB from LSU.

My two cents:
- In the words of Les "he didn't finish runs" his Fr yr. In his defense, I thought he ran harder and better last year.
- For someone as strong and fast and athletic, he doesn't run with violence (think Domanick Davis, Hester, Ridley, and even Ware).
- Great on KO returns
- Not a great blocker

Runs too upright. Very stiff.

Ford just has a couple fumbles in his career even though some of them hurt LSU bad.

I'm not saying he can't catch, I'm just saying we don't know because we never tried. And I think his running ability is much more the issue than his pass catching. But yeah any RB getting drafted these days better be a good all around back or it's not worth the pick drafting them.

but him on the field was just a guy that gets 5 carries on outside runs

You may want to look up Fords career stats and compare to others who play or have played at LSU. That career YPC number is a lot closer to 6 than 5.
And wasn't that ypc built by outside runs?

He is a much better back I believe then what was displayed at LSU.

No knock on the guy, but people pick their favorite rb and say les never gave him a shot or they racked up injuries and never pan out in the nfl.
In fact 2 guys that most recently had good season were two that received the least love from the fans or wasnt touted as the best back on the roster. Addai and Ridley.

I just meant get a coach to get "more out of him" kinda thing. But yeah it should just translate.
You just can't get blood out of a turnip.
Either you are a football player, or you are not. Feel for the game cannot be coached, IMHO.
I truly believe that TM7 would have been a better RB than Ford because he is a true football player and knows how to compete on the football field... and he only did 4 bench reps.
Strength and speed are great tools that can make a FOOTBALL player great. They don't do much for an athlete that is not really a football player.
All that being said, some NFL teams overrate measurables, and I hope Ford gets a chance to prove me wrong as an NFL player.

Ford was not used ....he still had a great avg. Even though teams knew they only used him on options and tosses.
