Ironically, FGCU exists because Gator Ben Hill Griffin donated the land for the school.

"donated" It was shady backroom Florida politics that made that deal happen. In case you didn't know, the Griffin's also owned all the land around the "donated" parcel. Oh what's that, our land quintupled in value over night, how sad for us....
It also doomed the Florida Panther to extinction regardless of what any conservation effort is put in place but that's a secondary issue I suppose.
