I think I'm finally ready to explore sours a little more. What are some good ones I need to check out, preferably available in Texas?

Well....if you can find Jester King......Das Wandirkind, Das Uberkind, Funk Metal, RU-55, Boxers Revenge. RODENBACH Grand Cru is a good belgian example that is easily available.

I've had the rodenbach, and can't find much jester king unless I go down to Houston
I should start checking them out though. Thought they were more farmhouse/saisons than sours though

They use the farmhouse term loosely. They are more sours in the last couple of years.

JK does have alot of Farmhouse/Saisons but the three Zappas listed are sour.
Rodenbach is a great beer. How did you like it?
I'd say look for 1809 Berliner Weisse, DFH Festina Peche (will be out in a couple months), Petrus Aged Pale, Petrus Oud Bruin, Duchesse de Borgogne, Liefmans goudenband, Panil Barrique, and the JK sours.
Eta the 1809 and Festina are Berliner Weisse beers, a very good style to start with sours. They are refreshing and more tart than puckering sour. A favorite style of mine in hot weather.

I go crazy for Festina peche when at the beach. I could drink Berliner Weisses all day long.

Pretty much everything listed above and throw in Jacobins Rouge, which is available in Texas.

What's some good sours available around BR?

Duchesse de Bourgogne is one of my favorites. Reminds me of Pinot noir with a touch of soy. Has the barrel fermemted funk with a bright cherry and brown sugar kind of essence. Really an easy beer to throw back.
All of jolly pumpkins beers are barrel fermemted and kinda toss the sour type funk across the board.

Reminds me of a Bougelais Noveau......but I'm not much of a wino. Very good beer but is not of the sourness of a lot of others.

quote:Calandros (and I heard Whole foods) have Cantillon Classic Gueuze. Get ready to shell $30/750ml. They may have some Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus left ($18-20/375ml). These are highly scored an top notch beers.

These come in 2-3 times a year though. I'd start with something more affordable if you're just starting to try them.
I know Calandros has the following:
1809 Berliner Weisse (a fav of mine)
Monks Cafe
Duchesse de Borgogne (step above monks cafe)
Liefmans Goudenband
Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela (my fav from JP)
Jacobins Rouge
Panil Barrique (one bottle left at about $20/750ml)
BFM Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien (a few bottles left at about $20/750ml, a Biere de garde with sour/tart notes)
Edit: spelling
Have seen Petrus Aged Pale and Oud Bruin at BJs and the Cove recently.
Not on shelves now but we also get Vichtenaar (similar to monks cafe), Jolly Pumpkin La Roja (haven't seen on shelves in over a year, have seen it in laffy though more recently), Tilquin (more moderately priced gueuze)
