Nostra, maybe I came across the wrong way, I dont think Austin would be a bad pickup for the saints and the offense.. he has a chance to be productive, I just wouldn't draft him because of our other pressing needs

Again, I am not out here saying we have to draft Austin. I'm simply stating the defense only crowd is being overly myopic in dismissing a guy who could be an insane weapon for a unit that IMO needs upgrading.

You say our WRs need to be upgraded.. why? Because they don't pass the eyeball test? A wr corp doesn't have to have a picture perfect measurable chart to be productive.

I believe our WR unit needs to be improved for numerous reasons. First, from a pure depth standpoint we are prison-raped if either Colston or Moore goes down for an extended period of time. Second, we have lost some serious speed lately with RM and DH. It's my opinion that the inability to stretch the field lately was part of the reason for Brees' increase in INTs this past season. Some of the windows he was throwing into were insanely tight.

We need someone who can blow the top off defenses and create some void spaces for Brees. Also, like Chad mentioned, the lack of YAC or big plays in general this past season was alarming.

Lastly, every significant contributor in our WR unit is getting old. I'm not saying they can't still be productive, but they won't forever. You don't just draft for next season you draft for the future. A new WR could help us both next year and in the future.
