Vlad's NIT Analysis for LSU

Update...minus RPI numbers
Here's what we're looking at taking Lunardi's predictions, random NIT blogs and RPI:
The NIT has 32 teams.
10 are officially in:
Charleston Southern
Mercer
Niagara
Norfolk St
Northeastern
Robert Morris
Stony Brook
Louisiana Tech
Stephen F Austin
Long Beach St
Another 10 seem to be universally accepted as "in". I figure it's a zero sum game with this group--if St. Mary's gets into the NCAA instead of Virginia or Bama, it's all the same to us.
Maryland
Providence
Iowa
Baylor
Arizona St
Boise St
LaSalle
MTSU
St. Mary's
Southern Miss
So, we're looking at 12 spots left.
LSU's RPI is 82 ( on Friday). There are 17 teams with a higher RPI:
Of those 16 there are 8 that could reasonably go ahead of LSU:
58 Massachusetts
64 BYU
65 Charlotte
70 St. Joseph's
73 Wyoming
76 Stanford
77 Air Force
79 Florida St.
The other are:
67 Denver
69 Detroit
71 Eastern Kentucky
74 Indiana St.
75 Ohio
77 North Dakota St.
81 Northern Iowa
Also, behind LSU we have:
84 Xavier
86 Providence
86 Arizona St.
88 Richmond
89 UTEP
If you count 8+10+10 you have 4 spots left. We should get in based on this info.
Bottom line:
We have a very good shot to get in, but it will be really close if RPI is a significant indicator.
We need to go for:
Montana-check
Long Beach St-failed us
Southern- thanks neighbor
Akron-check
Stephen F Austin-failed us
New Mexico State-check
We should root against:
UMass- lost
Florida State- lost

Thanks! Reminds me of the days Football was ecstatic about the Indy Bowl. At this point, I would Love an NIT invite!

Thanks for the analysis. I haven't looked at it closely myself yet.
I'm hoping for a spot, but watching the team today in person, they just look plain exhausted after a season of 5 or 6 players putting in serious minutes game after game.
I'll feel differently tomorrow.

I think they were just over-matched today and that wore on them towards the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.

You make a good point.
I just went to Dratings.com and they have LSU as a number 5 seed as of today ???????

i think we're in. we probably won't be higher than a 5 seed which means no home game unless we end up in one of those situations where the home team's gym is booked for something.

Or unless the lower seeded team either (i) did not bid for the game (school didn't want to take on the risk of costs) or (ii) did not submit a sufficient bid.
On a side note, wouldn't mind playing at USM if we have to travel.

I think LSU is on the right track with JJ but they did not beat anyone this year. 1 win against Missouri..That's it. Played Florida twice. Got the dog crap beat out of they. Played Kentucky..lost that game. Played Tennessee and lost. Played Marquette and lost. Why does this team deserve post season. The SEC sucked balls this year. No signature victories. Maybe next year, you schedule a Ohio State or Georgetown. Maybe a Michigan State or Kansas.
LSU has no one to blame but themselves. Sure LSU could beat any NIT team on a given night. Nothing, however, to pad your resume on though. This team is better than last year's team that went NIT-ing. so there is your argument for getting a bid. who knows. LSU basketball will improve the next few years. The team maximized its efforts this year. just not enough talent yet.

You think the NIT is loaded with teams who beat Duke, Kansas, and Indiana?

Double posts 9 minutes apart

Kentucky currently playing themselves into the NIT. Down double digits to Vandy at the half.
Posted on 3/15/13 at 7:39 pm to saintsfan22
I dont see the SEC getting less than 3 and probably at least 4. They probably only deserve 2 bids however.

Excellent analysis and thanks and now that I live in Montana will definitely be rooting for the Montana Grizzlies to take care of business tonight in Missoula against Northern Colorado and to beat the other semi winner either North Dakota or Weber State and right now Weber with a record of 25-5 is in a fight for its tourny life. That's the excitement of tournament time BABY.
