There are some really terrific bourbons out there that most people overlook. In many cases they are old brands that the manufacturers sell but don't support. Some offer a chance to taste something a little different, others are among the best bourbons you can buy, and all are great values. While a few have limited distribution, many are hiding in plain sight at your neighborhood whiskey monger.

Pretty good suggestions for the budget conscience or if you're just looking for a new house bourbon.

Evan Black has been my house mixer bourbon for years

And agree Beam Black is very good at $20 a fifth.

I judge myself for not having tried Weller 12 yet. I've been meaning to and for some reason it just continues to slip my mind. It's my on my to-do list for March.

Old Grand-Dad, discussed here on Monday, is one of the few high-rye bourbons and definitely the least expensive one. Its bonded expression has long been the best-selling bonded bourbon in the country. The bond usually sells for about $20,

Chuck turned me on to this one several years ago. I always have a bottle in my bunker.

Been in knoxville all week and went on a bourbon hunt. Picked up a bottle of four roses private selection cask strength and a handle of weller 12 which is essentially 12 year pappy.
