That's my point...I have been to New Orleans many times and didn't go down Bourbon Street. It doesn't matter where you live, trouble is right around the corner. If he is focused on getting clean, it shouldn't matter if he lives in New Orleans. He can still avoid those temptations by staying home and not associating in those environments.

I appreciate his attempts to better his life, but the ultimate problems he has created on based on the decisions he made. He can better his life by resisting outside influences and temptations, not simply avoiding them.

If he's in NOLA it's gonna be very difficult for him to tell all his old friends to f-off, or ignore all their phone calls, calling him a traitor, etc etc etc. He knows his limits. If he doesn't have that group of friends that he grew up with in another city, he won't necessarily make another group of thug friends. But in NOLA they will always be there.
