Expect the Un-expected tomorrow

Taking a closer look at Galette new contract is pretty intriguing. The way he was handled flies in the face of everything the Saints have done the last few years in regards to players and their contracts. When Pierre wanted a new contract they said nope, play on this one year tender and well talk. After the one year was up they inked him long term. Same exact thing for Lance Moore: play a year on a tender and then long term.
When it came to Galette, the Saints FO took a very calculated risk. Say they handled him the way they did Moore and thomas and he blows up this year. Then you're paying him probably three times what you inked him for. On the other hand, you're giving an unproven guy a deal that would usually be for every down guys. This gives you a pretty good idea in how much they think of him.
TL, DR version: I'm expecting to be blown away tomorrow. IMO Payton and Loomis are throwing their rule book out the door and doing whatever they can to win now. After a disappointing day, I'm stoked to see how tomorrow goes down.
Night fellas, I expect to wake up to some sort of news.

Do you have figures?
If not I think you are missing a very key thing.
He was costing the Saints slightly over $2 mil on the tender. They very likely signed him to a deal where the first year is under $2 mil.
Those other guys were all asking for more than what the tender was worth and we had more money to just leave them on the tender and not have to do a bunch of back loading.
Being that we are very tight against the cap, even if Junior saved us only half a mil to a million by signing long term it would help.
And the bonus we get out of the deal is we have him for sure a couple of years which is where you are right about taking a risk, albeit a low risk high reward type risk.
Those other guys we knew what we had and what they wanted and they weren't really going to improve their number. Galette does have the potential to do that.
Now I'm unsure of the type of money Galette would be overly excited for, but he seemed very happy with the deal. I suspect it's heavily back loaded, possibly with incentives. He may be cheap this year and cheaper over all if he blows up and we had left him on the tender, but I'm not sure we gave him a small contract.

At this stage, I've dedicated too much time trying to guess what they'll do.
It's like Christmas; I'll know what's in the box when it's opened.

Yeah Smith HAS to restructure to stay. His cap number is ridiculous and we'd save the most by cutting him. Pretty much the same with Vilma.

Free agency doesn't start until 3 tomorrow.

I don't see us as big players in free agency this year. Just not a lot of room to maneuver. May sign a role player at TE or CB, but I don't see us bringing in a stud player. Just IMO though.

Depends. If they hack all 3 (Vilma, smith, Harper) then we will have more than enough cap space to make a splash in FA. If not, well, Jason David is looking for work. Should we?
