It's pretty fun. It was between that and Amalur for me as well. I played the demos for both. They are free on XBL.
The combat is fun in both. Probably a little smoother in Amalur but after going thru the demo for a bit on KOA it seemed almost a little cartoonish.
Dogma is cool in a few ways. You can climb up on giant's back and hack away, or grab hold of a dragon and chop at it as it flies around.
I'd take Dogma but if I were you I'd played the demos

Sounds kind of like shadows of the colossus the way y'all describe the characters and battle sequences. SotC was fricking badass.
