I know for fact the NFL has more. That argument doesn't really work anyway. Louisiana has produced a bunch of MLB players,too. Could they support a big league team?
Look man, like I said earlier. I don't mind having extra room around my seats at the arena. It gives me more freedom to do whatever the frick I want. Spill beer, throw nachos, dance like I'm at a jam band concert, etc... It just gets depressing sometimes looking at an empty arena. I want people to come.

The NFL has more players . . . so, duh.
Could they support a baseball team? Yes. Can they support all 3 today? Likely not. All you have to do is look at Tiger and Tulane baseball following to get your answer about the passion.
