I don't PREFER LK, I would never call it a turd and consider it to be an all time great. Just my least favorite of the real classics
Um...
quote:
I detest the Lion King.
quote:
I don't like the lion king because I'm not a huge fan of celebrity voice acting
Whoopi
JTT
Broderick
Jeremy irons meh
Nathan lane and JEJ
I don't think there is anything extraordinary about the animation, I hate that it's animals, I don't care for the story, I just don't like it, but it is probably the single most popular Disney film.
quote:
And to answer your question
The voice acting is sub par
Simba is stupid, and his arc is kind of perplexing
The musical score is light years behind LM and BB IMO
While the animation is great, so is the animation in a host of other Disney classics
quote:
Lion king is, like you said, forgettable.
quote:
He goes from "I just can't wait to be king" to "frick being king" in a matter of 5 seconds. Now I realize why and how much time has taken place but we never see the transformation and the catalyst is him meeting some jungle bums. Granted I realize this is in conjunction with him believing he was responsible for the criminally negligent homicide of his father
quote:
Understandable and I don't need a 15 minute sequence but they basically show this though the hakuna matata sequence which, for me, is lame
Yeah, definitely "all time great" praise throughout this thread from you.
You actually said Jeremy Irons was meh. Jeremy fricking Irons as Scar.

Extraordinary, I wasn't treated to that holy shite moment visually (BatB ballroom sequence, cave of wonders) just me.
Musical scores can be great and forgettable. I'm trying to articulate why I find it the least of the 4 so it might sound bad
And yes, sadly the voice acting is pretty terrible despite one of the all time great disney performances (Nathan lane)
Animation is great, but visually it doesn't stand out for me like BatB or Aladdin. (or sleeping beauty)
Music is great but it had some really tough acts to follow and while the catalog is deep I'll just defer to your own comments about LM. The track list is a victim of disney's greatness.
I do detest the movie bit that has more to do with my tastes than the quality of the film. Just not my cup of tea. I absolutely loved silver linings playbook but I would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to see it again. Just not for me

Anyone who thinks the score for The Lion King is "meh" is on crack. It won an Oscar for its music and one of its songs.
In fact…it's the only Oscar Hans Zimmer has ever won.
