The voice acting is sub par
Simba is stupid, and his arc is kind of perplexing
The musical score is light years behind LM and BB IMO
While the animation is great, so is the animation in a host of other Disney classics

Going to agree with this. All of the side characters stand out, but the leads, even Broderick, are underwhelming.
Irons is quite awesome though.

What they got right was it resembling a documentary. Very well done on this respect. It had some stunning scenes that were off-balanced with some very mediocre sequences.

Ditto on my comment above, just replace "Jeremy Irons" with "the musical score."
The music in Lion King was incredible IMO. Circle of Life, Can You Feel the Love Tonight (one of the best Disney songs ever), Hakuna Matata, Be Prepared, etc. And I can't forget a shout out to Timone's hula song.

I kind of find it hard to say that Simba is stupid. That happened when he was like 6 (or the lion's equivalent), so I could see why he'd continue to believe it well into his adulthood.
