think Lion King does it fine.

Nathan lane steals the show, and James earl jones is James earl jones but the rest of it is painful. Jeremy irons singing, eek.

really think this is among the first instances of that happening in animation.

It might be, ive never really thought about it. There has to be an earlier one.

Ever since then, although it has calmed down somewhat in recent years, Dreamworks went apeshit with it and then a bunch of other studios began to copy them. Hell, it took until "How to Train Your Dragon" for Dreamworks to calm down on it. I too hate how people who have no business voice casting (Ben Stiller, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan (that one is a real head scratcher), etc), but hopefully it will soon calm down.

I don't think it ever will. Now some B, c list celebrities give great performances (i absolutely love JW and judy greer in archer) (the last few batman animated films are also a good example) from time to time but I don't go to see animated movies because will smith is in them, but I guess some people do.

Actually, that wasn't Jeremy Irons singing "Be Prepared". It was Jim Cummings.

There were some, but no really big examples. The biggest one that comes to my head is Vincent Price in "The Great Mouse Detective".

The fish movie Will Smith was in was the all-time low. The only person in that film who could possibly do voice acting was Jack Black. It was incredibly attrocious.
