Louisiana State Penitentiary Warden Burl Cain said a prison ambulance transported former LSU football star Billy Cannon to a Baton Rouge hospital about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for treatment of a possible stroke.

Cannon, the 1959 Heisman Trophy winner, is a dentist and has been director of the prison’s dental program for about 15 years.

Cain said a doctor at the R.E. Barrow Treatment Center at Angola said Cannon, 75, appeared to be having a stroke, and arrangements were made to transfer him to a Baton Rouge hospital.

He (Cannon) was conscious and coherent, but it was coming on him,” Cain said the doctor told him.

Billy Cannon has possible stroke

Since he was there and around someone who could call for help his chance of a complete recover is very good.
