It's gonna cost $5.5mil of cap to cut Smith. Then ya save $3.5mil of cap net. New deal would be whatever amt on top of the $3.5. Minimum for him almost $900K. So $3.5 to cut him and $4.5+ or more to keep him. Pretty sad

Yep, so get him to take the $1mm (+$3.5) and keep him. Otherwise, cut his arse and spend $3.5mm.
