I think the writers are biding their time for a BOOM moment. I'm willing to bet they let Tyrese and the girl in and the other two become walker fodder. To me their death sentence as major characters was written when they wanted to kill the main group.
I also think Daryl comes back (w/ or w/o Merle) and Michonne gets accepted. Although I think something will happen with Michonne... She is a strong character but I think she's kind of reckless.
