Oh, back to your original question of feeling like the only human left fighting against evil: that's about 90% of the game at least.

Example:

You can't play the game while in party chat. Well, you can, but it makes you play offline i.e. you can't summon other phantoms to help you out

Another small thing I've noticed is that I logged in just now and look at my friends list. Usually it looks something like

player a - cod: black ops 2 - domination in slums
player b - watching netflix
player c - battlefield 3: in the menus
player d - nba2k13 Hou 25 Det 20

What I'm saying is most games tell you exactly what is going on in your friends games. Not Dark souls. Just now:

CorndogCologne - Dark Souls - playing

Thanks XBL. I can see he's playing. Where is he and wtf is he doing?

you can use private chat to talk to someone and still summon phantoms.

I did that with someone once.

makes it easier to coordinate where the other person is if you're trying to summon them in. Also, it helps to talk to figure out a strategy for some bosses.

standard party chat is a no-no though.

Why is it so against co-op? They really want it to be that hard?
