Yeah, listen to the guy about bigger not being better. Installed a 4 ton and 2 ton for a 2600 sqft new construction last year and the 4 ton doesn't run long enought. I can put just the upstairs 2 ton on and keep the doors open up there and it will maintain the whole 2600 sqft by itself in the middle of August.

Best bet is to get a dual compressor or a two speed compressor and variable speed air handler that will run at lower capacity when the temp gets close to set point. This keeps the A/C running longer and reduces humidity in the air. I've had a dual compressor unit for over 10 yrs now and it works great.
